Initially, they are able to gain the trust and support of the other animals by promising a better life for all. However, as time passes, the pigs begin to abuse their power and manipulate the other animals for their own selfish gains. One of the ways in which the pigs maintain control is by using fear and intimidation to keep the other animals in line. They create a climate of fear where any dissent or questioning of their authority is met with punishment. This fear prevents the other animals from standing up for themselves and challenging the pigs' oppressive rule. As the pigs consolidate their power, they also become more greedy and corrupt.
