Absence of privacy from "summary" of Animal Farm and 1984 by George Orwell
In the world of Big Brother, privacy does not exist. Every movement, every action is watched and recorded. There is no place to hide, no corner untouched by the ever-watchful eye of the Party. Even in the supposed sanctuary of one's own home, there are telescreens, monitoring every word spoken, every expression made. The concept of personal space is foreign, as individuals are constantly reminded that they are never truly alone. In Animal Farm, the pigs gradually strip away the privacy of the other animals, using fear and intimidation to keep them in line. Squealer spreads propaganda, twisting the truth to manipulate the thoughts and actions of the others. The animals are never allowed to question or challenge the authority of the pigs, who rule with an iron fist. Any hint of dissent is swiftly quashed, leaving the animals feeling isolated and powerless. The absence of privacy in both worlds serves a common purpose - control.
