Ayurveda categorizes individuals based on doshas from "summary" of Yoga and Ayurveda by David Frawley

Ayurveda, the ancient healing system of India, is known for its comprehensive approach to health and well-being. One of the key principles of Ayurveda is the categorization of individuals based on their unique constitution, or dosha. According to Ayurvedic teachings, each person is born with a specific balance of three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Vata, the dosha associated with air and ether elements, is characterized by qualities such as dryness, lightness, and movement. Individuals who have a predominant Vata constitution tend to be creative, adaptable, and energetic. However, when Vata is out of balance, it can manifest as anxiety, insomnia, or digestive issues. Pitta, the dosha linked to fire and water elements, is marked by qualities like heat, intensity, and sharpness. People with a dominant Pitta constitution are often intelligent, ambitious, and organized. Yet, an excess of Pitta can lead to irritability, inflammation, or skin problems. Kapha, the dosha associated with earth and water elements, is characterized by heaviness, stability, and nourishment. Those with a predominant Kapha constitution are typically calm, compassionate, and nurturing. However, an imbalance of Kapha may result in weight gain, sluggishness, or congestion. By understanding their unique doshic makeup, individuals can make informed choices about diet, lifestyle, and daily routines to maintain balance and promote health. Ayurveda offers personalized recommendations for each dosha to help people live in harmony with their natural constitution and achieve optimal well-being. Through the practice of yoga, meditation, and other holistic therapies, individuals can align with the rhythms of nature and cultivate a sense of wholeness and vitality.
