Presence is about being fully alive from "summary" of Wherever You Go, There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zinn
Presence is not a mystical state reserved for monks on mountaintops. It is not about escaping reality or transcending the mundane aspects of life. Presence is about being fully alive, right here, right now. It is about embodying a sense of openness, curiosity, and acceptance towards whatever is happening in the present moment. When we are truly present, we are not lost in thoughts of the past or worries about the future. We are not distracted by our phones, our to-do lists, or the endless chatter of our minds. Instead, we are fully engaged with the here and now, with a deep sense of awareness and connection to our surroundings. Being present means allowing ourselves to fully experience the richness of each moment, no matter how ordinary or extraordinary it may be. It means bringing our full attention and awareness to whatever we are doing, whether it is washing the dishes, taking a walk, or having a conversation with a loved one. In a world filled with distractions and busyness, cultivating presence can be a radical act of self-care and self-awareness. It is a way of reclaiming our lives from the grip of autopilot and living with greater intention and mindfulness. By learning to be present, we can tap into a deep wellspring of peace, joy, and wisdom that lies within each of us. We can cultivate a sense of inner stillness and clarity that allows us to respond to life's challenges with grace and resilience. Presence is not something that we have to strive for or achieve. It is simply a state of being that we can cultivate through practices like mindfulness meditation, yoga, or simply taking a few moments each day to pause and breathe.- Presence is about embracing the fullness of our humanity and showing up for our lives in a more authentic and compassionate way. It is about letting go of our attachments to the past and fears about the future, and simply being with what is, as it is, in this moment.
