Acceptance leads to inner peace from "summary" of Wherever You Go, There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zinn
In the practice of mindfulness, acceptance is a key element that can lead to a deep sense of inner peace. When we accept things as they are in the present moment without judgment or resistance, we create space for peace to naturally arise within us. This acceptance involves acknowledging our thoughts, emotions, and sensations without trying to change them or push them away. By being open and receptive to whatever is happening within and around us, we cultivate a mindset of non-striving and non-reactivity. When we resist or deny our present experience, we create inner turmoil and suffering. This resistance can manifest as stress, anxiety, or discontentment. However, when we practice acceptance, we allow ourselves to fully experience the present moment without being carried away by our thoughts or emotions. This sense of presence and acceptance can bring a profound sense of calm and tranquility to our inner world. Acceptance does not mean that we passively endorse or condone everything that happens to us. Rather, it involves recognizing the reality of the present moment and choosing to respond with wisdom and compassion. By accepting our experiences with an open heart and mind, we can cultivate a sense of equanimity and resilience in the face of life's challenges. Through the practice of mindfulness, we can learn to observe our thoughts and emotions with curiosity and kindness. Instead of getting caught up in a cycle of reactivity and resistance, we can choose to meet our experiences with acceptance and compassion. This shift in perspective can bring a sense of ease and peace to our inner world, even in the midst of difficult circumstances.- Acceptance is a powerful tool that can help us navigate the ups and downs of life with grace and equanimity. By cultivating acceptance in our daily practice of mindfulness, we can tap into a deep wellspring of inner peace that is always available to us, no matter what challenges we may face. Ultimately, acceptance allows us to find peace not by changing our external circumstances, but by transforming our relationship to them.
