The body responds to how we treat ourselves emotionally from "summary" of When the Body Says No by Gabor Maté

Our emotional experiences, both conscious and unconscious, have a direct impact on our physical well-being. When we suppress our emotions or deny our true feelings, we are essentially telling our bodies that it is not safe to express ourselves authentically. This internal conflict between our emotions and our actions can manifest physically in the form of illness and disease. Our bodies are incredibly intelligent, and they have a way of communicating with us when something is not right. When we ignore or dismiss these signals, we are essentially ignoring our own needs and desires. This can lead to a breakdown in communication between our minds and our bodies, resulting in a wide range of physical symptoms. Stress is a major factor in the mind-body connection, as our bodies respond to stress in a very real and physical way. Chronic stress can weaken our immune system, disrupt our hormone balance, and even alter our genetic expression. When we are constantly in a state of fight-or-flight, our bodies are not able to function optimally, leading to an increased risk of illness and disease. Our beliefs and attitudes also play a significant role in our physical health. When we hold negative beliefs about ourselves or the world around us, we are essentially creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. Our bodies respond to these beliefs by manifesting symptoms that align with our negative thoughts and emotions.
  1. Our bodies are a reflection of how we treat ourselves emotionally. When we are able to acknowledge and express our true feelings, we are giving our bodies the opportunity to heal and thrive. By fostering a sense of self-awareness and self-compassion, we can cultivate a healthier mind-body connection and live a more fulfilling and vibrant life.
