Nonverbal communication is a universal language from "summary" of What Every BODY is Saying by Joe Navarro,Marvin Karlins

Nonverbal communication transcends language barriers. It is a universal form of expression that is understood by people around the world, regardless of the language they speak. This is because nonverbal communication is rooted in our biology and evolution, making it a fundamental aspect of human interaction that is consistent across cultures. Our ability to communicate nonverbally is deeply ingrained in us, as it is a primal form of expression that predates spoken language. From the way we use facial expressions to convey emotions, to the gestures we make with our hands to emphasize a point, nonverbal cues are an integral part of how we communicate with others. Furthermore, nonverbal communication is often more powerful and reliable than verbal communication. While words can be deceptive and easily manipulated, our nonverbal cues are more difficult to control consciously. This makes them a more accurate reflection of our true thoughts and feelings, providing others with valuable insights into our intentions and emotions. In addition, nonverbal communication is a key component of social interactions, helping us to establish rapport, build trust, and convey empathy. By paying attention to the nonverbal cues of others, we can better understand their perspective and respond in a way that is sensitive and appropriate.
  1. The universality of nonverbal communication makes it a powerful tool for connecting with others on a deeper level. By honing our ability to read and interpret nonverbal cues, we can enhance our communication skills and strengthen our relationships with those around us. It is a language that speaks to our shared humanity, transcending cultural and linguistic boundaries to foster understanding and connection.
