Trauma is not just something that happens in the mind - it is stored in the body as well. When a person experiences a traumatic event, their body's natural response is to go into a state of fight, flight, or freeze. This response is meant to help the individual survive the threat they are facing. In the animal kingdom, animals are able to discharge this energy once the threat has passed. They shake, tremble, and move their bodies in specific ways to release the stored energy that was created during the traumatic event. This discharge allows them to return to a state of balance and relaxation. However, humans often do not allow themselves to fully discharge this energy.
