Changing our relationship with anxiety is possible through mindfulness from "summary" of Unwinding Anxiety by Judson Brewer

In understanding how to work with anxiety, it can be helpful to recognize that our relationship with anxiety is something that can be changed. This shift in perspective can open up new possibilities for how we relate to our anxious thoughts and feelings. Instead of seeing anxiety as something to be avoided or feared, we can learn to approach it with curiosity and openness. By bringing mindfulness to our experience of anxiety, we can begin to explore the patterns and habits that keep us stuck in cycles of worry and rumination. Mindfulness can help us develop a greater awareness of the thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations that make up our experience of anxiety. By tuning into these aspects of our experience with an attitude of curiosity and non-judgment, we can begin to see anxiety in a new light. Rather than trying to push away or suppress our anxious thoughts and feelings, we can learn to be with them in a more compassionate and accepting way. Through mindfulness practice, we can start to see how our anxious thoughts and feelings are not fixed or permanent. Instead, they are transient experiences that come and go in response to various triggers and stimuli. By observing the ebb and flow of our anxiety with a sense of curiosity and openness, we can begin to develop a greater sense of ease and spaciousness in relation to our anxious thoughts and feelings. As we deepen our mindfulness practice, we may start to notice that our anxious thoughts and feelings are often fueled by automatic habits and patterns of thinking. These habits can keep us stuck in cycles of worry and rumination, perpetuating our experience of anxiety. By bringing awareness to these habits and patterns, we can begin to loosen their grip on us and create space for new ways of relating to our anxiety. By changing our relationship with anxiety through mindfulness, we can cultivate a greater sense of self-awareness and self-compassion. We can learn to respond to our anxious thoughts and feelings with kindness and curiosity, rather than with fear and avoidance. In doing so, we can begin to unwind the tangled knots of anxiety that keep us trapped in cycles of suffering. Through practice and patience, we can discover new ways of being with anxiety that lead to greater peace, clarity, and freedom.
