However, what many people may not realize is the crucial role that adequate sleep plays in memory consolidation. When we sleep, our brains are hard at work processing and storing information that we have learned throughout the day. This process is known as memory consolidation. During the deep stages of sleep, particularly during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, the brain is busy forming connections between different pieces of information, strengthening neural pathways, and solidifying memories.
