Practice mindfulness to live in the present moment from "summary" of The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down by Haemin Sunim

Mindfulness is the key to living in the present moment. It is about being fully aware of what is going on within and around us. When we practice mindfulness, we are not dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Instead, we are fully engaged with the here and now. One way to cultivate mindfulness is to pay attention to our breath. By focusing on our breath, we can anchor ourselves in the present moment. We can observe the rise and fall of our breath, the sensation of air entering and leaving our body. This simple act of breathing can bring us back to the present moment, away from our racing thoughts and worries. Another way to practice mindfulness is to engage our senses. We can fully immerse ourselves in the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures of our surroundings. By paying attention to our sensory experiences, we can bring ourselves into the present moment and appreciate the beauty and wonder of the world around us. Mindfulness also involves being aware of our thoughts and emotions without judgment. Instead of getting caught up in our thoughts or trying to suppress our emotions, we can simply observe them with curiosity and compassion. By accepting our thoughts and feelings as they are, we can let them come and go without getting swept away by them.
  1. Mindfulness is about being fully present in each moment, no matter how ordinary or extraordinary it may be. It is about savoring the simple joys of life, such as a warm cup of tea, a gentle breeze, or a kind word from a friend. When we practice mindfulness, we can let go of our worries and regrets, and instead, fully embrace the beauty and richness of the present moment.
