Conflict is inevitable but can be managed effectively from "summary" of The Relationship Cure by John Gottman, PhD,Joan DeClaire

Conflict is a natural part of any relationship. It's like a shadow that follows us everywhere we go. We can't avoid it, but we can learn how to deal with it in a healthy way. The key is not to eliminate conflict entirely, but rather to manage it effectively when it arises. When conflict rears its head, it's easy to let our emotions take control. We may feel angry, hurt, or defensive, and these emotions can cloud our judgment. Instead of lashing out or shutting down, we need to take a step back and approach the situation with a clear head. This means being aware of our emotions and learning how to regulate them so they don't dictate our actions. Communication is essential in managing conflict. We need to be able to express our thoughts and feelings in a constructive way, without resorting to blame or criticism. It's important to listen to our partner's perspective and show empathy towards their feelings. By practicing active listening and validating our partner's emotions, we can create a safe space for open and honest communication. Another crucial aspect of managing conflict is compromise. We need to be willing to find common ground and work towards a solution that satisfies both parties. This requires a willingness to be flexible and open-minded, as well as a commitment to finding a resolution that benefits the relationship as a whole. In order to effectively manage conflict, we must also be willing to forgive and move forward. Holding onto grudges or past grievances will only breed resentment and hinder the healing process. By practicing forgiveness and letting go of past hurts, we can create a stronger foundation for our relationship to thrive. Conflict may be inevitable, but it doesn't have to be destructive. By learning how to manage conflict effectively, we can strengthen our relationships and create a more harmonious and fulfilling connection with our partners. It takes effort and practice, but the rewards are well worth it.
