The idea that everything is impermanent can be a source of great comfort when we are feeling hopeless. When we believe that our suffering is eternal and unchanging, it can feel overwhelming and insurmountable. However, if we can truly grasp the concept of impermanence, we can begin to see that our current state of hopelessness is not permanent. Just as the clouds pass overhead and the seasons change, our feelings of hopelessness will also come and go.
