Different age groups have different sleep needs. As babies grow and develop, their sleep patterns change. It is essential to understand the recommended sleep schedules for each age group to ensure that your child is getting the rest they need. Newborns typically sleep for 16 to 17 hours a day, usually in short stretches. They may sleep for 2 to 4 hours at a time before waking up to eat. As babies get older, they will start to consolidate their sleep into longer stretches at night. By 4 to 6 months, most babies can sleep for 6 to 8 hours at a time. It is also common for them to take 2 to 3 naps during the day. Establishing a bedtime routine can help babies learn when it is time to sleep.
