Discovering passion for cooking from "summary" of Tender at the Bone by Ruth Reichl

I fell in love with cooking long before I knew what love was. It began in my mother's kitchen, where I would watch her move with ease and grace as she prepared meals for our family. I was drawn to the way she wielded a knife, the way she seasoned a dish just so, the way she turned simple ingredients into something magical. As I grew older, my passion for cooking only deepened. I found solace in the kitchen, where I could lose myself in the rhythm of chopping, stirring, and tasting. Cooking became my escape, my refuge from the chaos of the outside world. I poured my heart and soul into every dish I made, striving for perfection with each new recipe I tried. But it wasn't until I left home and ventured out into the world on my own that I truly discovered the power of cooking. In unfamiliar kitchens, surrounded by new faces and tastes, I found that food was a universal language that could bridge any divide. I cooked for friends, for lovers, for strangers, and in each meal I shared a piece of myself. Through cooking, I found my voice, my identity, my purpose. It wasn't just about nourishing the body, but also the soul. It was about connecting with others, about creating memories, about expressing love and joy and sorrow through the alchemy of food. Cooking became my art, my passion, my calling. And so I continue to cook, day after day, year after year, always seeking new flavors, new techniques, new challenges. For me, cooking is not just a hobby or a job, but a way of life. It is the thread that weaves through all the chapters of my story, the constant that grounds me in a world that is ever-changing. Cooking is my passion, my purpose, my reason for being. And I am grateful every day for the gift of discovering it.
