The virtues of observing the first ten days of DhulHijjah from "summary" of Sahih Muslim (Volume 8) by Imam Abul-Husain Muslim
It has been narrated by Ibn Abbas that the Prophet (may peace be upon him) said: "No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (first ten days of DhulHijjah)." They (the companions) said: "O Messenger of Allah, not even jihad?" He said: "Not even jihad, except for the one who goes out for jihad with his life and his wealth and does not return with either." This hadith signifies the immense importance and superiority of performing good deeds during the first ten days of DhulHijjah. During these days, Muslims are encouraged to increase their acts of worship, such as prayers, fasting, remembrance of Allah, and giving charity. This period is a time for spiritual reflection, repentance, and seeking forgiveness from Allah. It is a time to draw closer to Allah and strengthen one's faith. One of the most significant acts of worship during these days is fasting. Fasting during the first nine days of DhulHijjah is highly recommended, especially on the Day of Arafah (the 9th day). The Prophet (may peace be upon him) said: "Fasting the Day of Arafah expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year." This shows the great reward and forgiveness that fasting on this day brings. Moreover, the Day of Arafah is the day when the pilgrims stand on the plain of Arafah, seeking Allah's mercy and forgiveness. It is a day of supplication and devotion, and even for those not performing Hajj, fasting on this day holds great significance. In addition to fasting, engaging in extra prayers, recitation of the Quran, and making dhikr are also highly encouraged during these blessed days. Making sincere repentance and seeking forgiveness from Allah are also important acts to perform during this time.- The first ten days of DhulHijjah are a time of great blessings and opportunities for spiritual growth. Muslims should take advantage of this time by increasing their worship, seeking forgiveness, and drawing closer to Allah. By observing these virtues during these days, one can attain immense rewards and blessings from Allah.
