Compassion for others emerges from selfacceptance from "summary" of Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach

When we can hold ourselves with compassion, we are able to extend that same kindness and understanding to others. This is because compassion for others arises from a deep sense of self-acceptance. It is only when we are able to be gentle and forgiving towards ourselves that we can truly show empathy and care towards those around us. Self-acceptance is not about striving for perfection or meeting certain standards. It is about embracing ourselves as we are, with all our flaws and imperfections. When we can look at ourselves with a gentle and non-judgmental gaze, we can also look at others in the same way. When we are constantly critical and harsh towards ourselves, we tend to project that same critical attitude onto others. On the other hand, when we cultivate self-acceptance and self-compassion, we naturally begin to see the humanity and vulnerability in others. We recognize that everyone is struggling in their own way, just like we are. By accepting ourselves fully, we are able to break down the barriers that separate us from others. We begin to see the interconnectedness of all beings and realize that we are not alone in our suffering. This sense of shared humanity allows us to respond to others with kindness and understanding, rather than judgment and criticism. In this way, self-acceptance becomes the foundation for compassion towards others. It is a powerful practice that can transform our relationships and bring greater peace and harmony into our lives. By learning to hold ourselves with love and compassion, we are able to extend that same love and compassion to the world around us.
