When given a default choice, individuals are more likely to stick with the pre-selected option, even if it may not be in their best interest. This phenomenon highlights our tendency to opt for the path of least resistance, as changing the default requires additional effort and cognitive resources. As a result, individuals may end up settling for a suboptimal choice simply because it was presented as the default. Furthermore, the framing of choices can also impact our risk preferences. Research has shown that individuals tend to be risk-averse when options are presented in terms of potential gains, but become risk-seeking when the same choices are framed in terms of potential losses. This asymmetry in decision-making highlights the power of framing in shaping our risk attitudes and behavior. In addition to default options and risk preferences, the way choices are presented can also influence our perception of value. For instance, individuals may be more willing to pay a higher price for a product when the cost is presented as a loss (e. g., "You will lose $50 if you do not buy this item") rather than a gain (e. g., "You will save $50 if you buy this item"). This framing effect can lead individuals to make irrational decisions based on how choices are framed, rather than the actual value of the options.
