Focus on the present moment from "summary" of Positive Parenting by Rebecca Eanes

When we focus on the present moment, we are fully engaged in what is happening right now. It means we are not distracted by thoughts of the past or worries about the future. This is a simple concept, but it can be difficult to practice, especially in today's fast-paced world. Our minds are constantly racing, jumping from one thing to the next, and it can be challenging to slow down and be fully present. Being present with our children is one of the greatest gifts we can give them. When we are fully engaged in the moment with our children, we are showing them that they are important to us. We are giving them our full attention, and we are truly listening to what they have to say. This helps to strengthen our bond with them and build a foundation of trust and connection. Focusing on the present moment also helps us to be more mindful parents. Mindfulness is the practice of being aware of our thoughts, feelings, and actions in the present moment, without judgment. When we are mindful, we are better able to respond to our children with patience and compassion, rather than reacting out of frustration or anger. Practicing mindfulness can also help us to manage stress and anxiety. When we are focused on the present moment, we are not consumed by worries about the future or regrets about the past. We are able to let go of those negative thoughts and simply be in the here and now. In order to focus on the present moment, it can be helpful to practice mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or simply taking a moment to pause and notice our surroundings. By incorporating these practices into our daily lives, we can become more present with our children and create a more peaceful and harmonious home environment.
