Mask of normalcy from "summary" of No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai
The facade of normalcy that I wore was just that - a facade. It was a mask that I put on every day to hide the true darkness that lurked within me. I went through the motions of daily life, pretending to be just like everyone else. I smiled when I was supposed to smile, laughed when I was supposed to laugh. But behind this mask, I was a mess of contradictions and inner turmoil. I struggled to maintain this facade, constantly fearing that someone would see through it and discover the truth about me. I was terrified of being exposed as the fraud that I was. So I kept up the act, plastering on a fake smile and pretending that everything was fine. But deep down, I knew that I was anything but normal. The mask of normalcy that I wore was a heavy burden to bear. It weighed me down, suffocating me with its false promises of happiness and contentment. I longed to cast it aside and reveal my true self to the world. But I was too afraid of what would happen if I did. So I continued to wear the mask, hiding my true feelings and thoughts from everyone around me. As the days passed, the mask of normalcy became more and more ingrained in my daily life. It became harder to separate the false persona that I presented to the world from the person that I truly was. I lost sight of who I really was, consumed by the need to keep up appearances and maintain the facade of normalcy. In the end, the mask of normalcy that I wore became my undoing. It was a prison of my own making, trapping me in a cycle of deceit and self-denial. I had become so accustomed to wearing the mask that I no longer knew how to take it off. I was lost in a sea of lies and half-truths, unable to find my way back to the person that I once was.Similar Posts
