No Longer Human is a novel by Japanese author Osamu Dazai which follows the life of the protagonist, Oba Yozo. The novel tells the story of Yozo, a young man who struggles to fit into a society he finds completely alienating and repressive. Yozo finds it difficult to relate to others, and his attempts to make his peace with society are continually rejected. He falls into a state of depression and turns to alcohol to escape. As his life spirals further out of control, Yozo is faced with the realization that he is no longer capable of relating to the people around him. His journey eventually leads to his death by suicide. Throughout the story, Dazai explores the themes of the human condition, alienation, and the struggle to fit into a society that one finds oppressive and alienating.
