Harness the power of a growth mindset from "summary" of Mindset by Carol Dweck

In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. Virtually all great people have had these qualities. A growth mindset is based on the belief that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through your efforts. Although people may differ in every way—in their initial talents and aptitudes, interests, or temperaments—everyone can change and grow through application and experience. A fixed mindset limits success. When people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits, they spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort. In a growth mindset, challenges are exciting rather than threatening. So rather than thinking, “Oh, I’m going to reveal my weaknesses,” you can say, “Wow, here’s a chance to grow.” If you’re someone with a growth mindset, you’ll want to stretch yourself and expand your existing abilities. People with a growth mindset find success in doing their best, in learning and improving. This is the mindset that allows people to thrive during some of the most challenging times in their lives. A growth mindset is the key to taking charge of your future. Just because you don’t know something now doesn’t mean you can’t learn it. Just because you can’t do something now doesn’t mean you can’t learn it. Remember, it’s not always an easy process, but it’s one that’s worth it.
