Pride can be dangerous from "summary" of Leo Tolstoy: Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

Pride, according to the wisdom of the ages, is a dangerous thing. It can blind a person to the truth and lead them down a treacherous path. In "Anna Karenina," we see how this deadly sin manifests itself in the character of Anna, whose pride ultimately brings about her downfall. Anna's pride is evident from the very beginning of the story. She is a woman who values her social standing above all else, and she is willing to do whatever it takes to maintain her position in society. This pride leads her to make a series of poor choices, culminating in her affair with Count Vronsky. As her relationship with Vronsky progresses, Anna's pride clouds her judgment and causes her to act in ways that are detrimental to herself and those around her. She becomes consumed by jealousy and paranoia, convinced that Vronsky is being unfaithful to her. Her pride prevents her from seeing the truth of the situation, and she becomes increasingly isolated and desperate. In the end, Anna's pride leads to her tragic demise. Unable to bear the shame and humiliation of her situation, she takes her own life, leaving behind a trail of destruction in her wake. Her pride, which once seemed like a source of strength, ultimately proves to be her undoing.
  1. Lead us astray, and ultimately bring about our downfall. In a world where appearances are everything, it is all too easy to fall prey to the seductive allure of pride. But as Anna's story reminds us, the consequences of succumbing to this deadly sin can be devastating.
