Establish boundaries to maintain control from "summary" of Kids' Guide to Staying Awesome and in Control by Lauren Brukner

Setting boundaries means deciding what is okay and what is not okay. When we have clear boundaries, we are better able to stay in control of ourselves. Boundaries help us understand our limits and respect the limits of others. For example, if someone is being mean to us, we can set a boundary by telling them that it is not okay to talk to us that way. This helps us feel more confident and in control of the situation. Boundaries can be physical, emotional, or verbal. Physical boundaries include things like personal space and touching. Emotional boundaries involve how we feel and how we let others treat us. Verbal boundaries are about the words we use and the language we accept from others. By setting boundaries in all these areas, we can protect ourselves and maintain our sense of control. It's important to communicate our boundaries clearly and confidently. We can do this by using assertive language and body language. For example, we can use phrases like "I am not comfortable with that" or "Please stop doing that". By speaking up for ourselves in a respectful way, we show others how we expect to be treated. This helps us maintain control over our own feelings and actions. When we set boundaries, we show that we value ourselves and deserve to be treated with respect. It's okay to say no to things that make us uncomfortable or unhappy. By establishing boundaries, we create a safe and positive environment for ourselves and those around us. This allows us to stay in control of our emotions and behavior, even in challenging situations.
