Mindsets can limit our ability to change from "summary" of Immunity to Change by Robert Kegan,Lisa Laskow Lahey
When we try to change something about ourselves, we often encounter resistance. This resistance is not just external; it often comes from within us. We may have a strong desire to change, but we find ourselves unable to do so. This internal resistance is often rooted in our mindsets, or mental models, which are deeply ingrained ways of thinking that shape how we see the world. These mindsets can act as barriers to change, limiting our ability to break free from old patterns of behavior. Our mindsets are formed early in life and are influenced by our upbringing, experiences, and the beliefs of those around us. They are so deeply embedded in our psyche that we may not even be aware of them. These mindsets create a kind of immunity to change, causing us to resist efforts to break free from our old ways of thinking and behaving. This immunity to change is not a conscious choice; it is a deeply ingrained response that can be difficult to overcome. To truly change, we must first become aware of our mindsets and the ways in which they are holding us back. We must identify the beliefs and assumptions that underlie our resistance to change and examine them critically. Only by shining a light on these hidden barriers can we begin to dismantle them and create the space for real transformation to occur. Changing our mindsets is not easy. It requires courage, persistence, and a willingness to challenge deeply held beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. It also requires us to confront the fears and insecurities that lie at the heart of our resistance to change. But by doing so, we can begin to unlock our true potential and break free from the limitations that our mindsets impose on us.Similar Posts
