In the midst of conflict and disagreement, it can be easy to only focus on our own thoughts and feelings. We may become so consumed by our own perspective that we fail to truly listen to the other person's point of view. However, when we take the time to listen with empathy, we open ourselves up to a deeper level of understanding. Empathy allows us to put ourselves in the other person's shoes, to see things from their perspective. It enables us to truly hear what they are saying, to understand their emotions and motivations.
