Aging brings changes in physiological functions from "summary" of Human Biology by Cecie Starr,Beverly McMillan

As we age, our bodies undergo a series of changes that affect our physiological functions. These changes are a natural part of the aging process and can impact how our bodies function on a day-to-day basis. One of the most noticeable changes that occurs with aging is a decrease in overall muscle mass and strength. This decline in muscle mass, known as sarcopenia, can make it more difficult for older individuals to perform tasks that require physical strength, such as lifting heavy objects or climbing stairs. In addition to changes in muscle mass, aging can also affect our cardiovascular system. As we get older, our blood vessels may become less flexible, leading to a decrease in overall blood flow. This can result in a variety of cardiovascular issues, such as high blood pressure or an increased risk of heart disease. Furthermore, the heart itself may undergo changes with age, such as a decrease in the efficiency of the heart muscle or a slower heart rate. Another physiological change that occurs with aging is a decrease in bone density. This can lead to an increased risk of fractures and osteoporosis, a condition in which the bones become weak and brittle. As a result, older individuals may be more prone to injuries from falls or other accidents. Furthermore, the respiratory system can also be affected by the aging process. As we age, our lung capacity may decrease, making it more difficult to breathe deeply or engage in physical activity. This can result in a decreased ability to exercise and may contribute to feelings of fatigue or shortness of breath.
  1. The changes in physiological functions that occur with aging are a natural part of the human life cycle. While these changes can impact our day-to-day lives, there are ways to mitigate their effects through healthy lifestyle choices, such as regular exercise, a balanced diet, and regular medical check-ups. By understanding how aging can affect our bodies, we can take proactive steps to maintain our health and well-being as we grow older.
