The idea that we are all connected, that our lives are intertwined in ways we might not fully grasp, can be a difficult concept to wrap our minds around. Yet, as I found myself being held hostage in Somalia, I couldn't help but think about the people whose lives were intertwined with mine in ways I had never imagined. The family and friends who were desperately trying to secure my release, the strangers who were moved by my story and reached out to offer their support, the journalists who were working tirelessly to bring attention to my plight - all of these people were connected to me in ways that went beyond borders and boundaries. In those dark and uncertain moments, I found myself drawing strength from the knowledge that I was not alone in my suffering. I was part of a larger tapestry of humanity, each thread connected to the next in ways that were both visible and invisible.
