Overcoming shame from "summary" of Heavy by Kiese Laymon
Shame is a monster. A monster that swallows you whole, that tells you that you are never enough. It whispers in your ear, reminding you of every mistake, every flaw, every failure. It twists your reality, distorting the truth until you can't even recognize yourself anymore. But shame is also a liar. A liar that thrives in the darkness, in the silence. It feeds off your fear, your self-doubt, your isolation. It grows stronger when you keep it hidden, when you pretend it doesn't exist. It demands your obedience, your submission, your surrender. Overcoming shame is a battle. A battle that must be fought with honesty, with courage, with vulnerability. It requires you to face the monster head-on, to stare into its eyes and see it for what it truly is. It demands that you speak your truth, that you tell your story, that you refuse to be silenced any longer. To overcome shame, you must be willing to forgive yourself. To forgive yourself for the mistakes you've made, the pain you've caused, the harm you've suffered. You must recognize that you are human, that you are flawed, that you are deserving of love and compassion. You must also be willing to seek help. To seek help from those who care for you, who support you, who believe in you. To seek help from therapists, from friends, from mentors. To seek help from books, from art, from nature. Overcoming shame is a journey. A journey that will take you through fire and water, through joy and pain, through darkness and light. It will push you to your limits, challenge you to your core, change you in ways you never thought possible. But in the end, when you finally emerge from the shadows, when you finally break free from the chains of shame, you will discover a truth that has always been there, waiting for you to see it: You are worthy. You are enough. You are loved.Similar Posts
