Grit can be nurtured through the development of a growth mindset from "summary" of Grit by Angela Duckworth

In one study, I found that having a growth mindset was linked to greater perseverance in the face of setbacks — that is, grit. Those with a growth mindset believe that they can improve with effort. They outperform those with a fixed mindset, even when they have a lower IQ, because they embrace challenges, treating them not as a sign of their lack of ability, but as an opportunity to learn and improve. It stands to reason that if you can cultivate a growth mindset, you can cultivate grit. And indeed, that's exactly what I found in my research. People can learn to be more gritty — it's just like developing any other skill. By changing the way you think about your abilities and potential, you can strengthen your perseverance and passion for long-term goals. One way to foster a growth mindset is to praise effort rather than intelligence. When we praise children for their hard work, we are encouraging them to believe that they can improve through their own actions. This, in turn, promotes a belief in the power of effort and the value of persistence. Additionally, setting high standards and providing support and feedback can help individuals develop a growth mindset. When people are challenged to reach their full potential and given the resources and guidance to do so, they are more likely to adopt a mindset that values effort and sees failure as a stepping stone to success.
