Let go of comparison and perfectionism from "summary" of Good Inside by Dr. Becky Kennedy

Comparison and perfectionism are two concepts that can weigh heavily on our minds, affecting our self-worth and overall well-being. When we constantly compare ourselves to others, we fall into the trap of believing that we are not good enough as we are. We begin to believe that we need to be like someone else in order to be happy or successful. This constant comparison only serves to diminish our sense of self and perpetuates feelings of inadequacy. Perfectionism, on the other hand, sets unrealistic standards for ourselves that are impossible to meet. We are constantly striving for flawlessness in everything we do, leading to feelings of disappointment and frustration when we inevitably fall short. Perfectionism can hold us back from taking risks or trying new things, as we fear failure and rejection. To let go of comparison and perfectionism, we must first recognize that these are harmful patterns of thinking that do not serve us. We must learn to accept ourselves as we are, with all our imperfections and shortcomings. It is important to understand that no one is perfect, and that we are all on our own unique journey in life. Instead of comparing ourselves to others, we can focus on our own growth and progress. We can set realistic goals for ourselves and celebrate our achievements, no matter how small they may seem. By letting go of comparison, we free ourselves from the burden of constantly measuring up to others, and we can embrace our true selves. Similarly, by letting go of perfectionism, we can give ourselves permission to make mistakes and learn from them. We can see failure as an opportunity for growth and development, rather than a reflection of our worth. When we release the need to be perfect, we can experience a sense of freedom and authenticity that allows us to truly thrive. In the end, letting go of comparison and perfectionism is a journey of self-discovery and self-compassion. It requires patience, practice, and a willingness to challenge our old beliefs and patterns of thinking. But by doing so, we can cultivate a sense of inner peace and contentment that comes from accepting ourselves as we are, imperfections and all.
