Full Catastrophe Living introduces mindfulnessbased stress reduction from "summary" of Full Catastrophe Living (Revised Edition) by Jon Kabat-Zinn

The essence of mindfulness-based stress reduction is to bring awareness to the present moment, without judgment, and with an attitude of kindness and curiosity. This practice involves intentionally paying attention to our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and the surrounding environment. By cultivating this kind of awareness, we can learn to respond more skillfully to stressors and challenges, rather than reacting automatically based on our habitual patterns of thought and behavior. Mindfulness-based stress reduction is not about trying to escape from or avoid difficult situations. Instead, it is about facing them head-on with a sense of openness and acceptance. When we practice mindfulness, we are better able to see things as they are, rather than as we wish them to be. This allows us to respond more effectively to whatever life throws our way. The concept of mindfulness-based stress reduction is based on the idea that we often create additional suffering for ourselves by resisting or fighting against the reality of our experience. When we learn to be present with our thoughts and emotions, without becoming entangled in them, we can break free from this cycle of reactivity and find a greater sense of peace and balance. By becoming more attuned to our inner world through mindfulness practice, we can also develop a greater sense of compassion and empathy for ourselves and others. This can help us to navigate the challenges of life with greater ease and grace, and to cultivate deeper connections with those around us.
  1. Mindfulness-based stress reduction is a way of tapping into our innate capacity for awareness, wisdom, and resilience. It offers us a path to greater well-being and happiness, not by avoiding or denying the difficulties of life, but by meeting them with presence, compassion, and courage. Through the practice of mindfulness, we can learn to live more fully and authentically, even in the midst of life's inevitable challenges.
