Dairy is not necessary from "summary" of Food - WTF - Should I Eat? by Mark Hyman
Dairy is often thought of as an essential part of a balanced diet, but the truth is, it's not necessary. Many people believe that dairy is crucial for strong bones and overall health, but the reality is that there are plenty of other foods that can provide the same nutrients found in dairy products. The idea that dairy is necessary for calcium intake is a common misconception. In fact, there are many other sources of calcium that are more easily absorbed by the body, such as leafy green vegetables, nuts, seeds, and fish. These foods not only provide calcium but also offer a variety of other essential nutrients that are important for overall health. Additionally, dairy products are often high in saturated fats, which can contribute to heart disease and other health problems. Many people also have difficulty digesting lactose, the sugar found in dairy products, which can lead to digestive issues such as bloating, gas, and diarrhea. Furthermore, dairy products are often loaded with hormones and antibiotics that can have negative effects on our health. These added hormones can disrupt our own hormonal balance and contribute to a variety of health issues, including weight gain, acne, and even certain types of cancer.- While dairy products can be a convenient source of certain nutrients, they are not necessary for a healthy diet. By focusing on a variety of whole, nutrient-dense foods, we can easily meet our nutrient needs without relying on dairy. So next time you're considering whether or not to include dairy in your diet, remember that it's not essential - there are plenty of other options out there that can provide the same benefits without the potential drawbacks.
