Greg humilates Rowley for his own benefit from "summary" of Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Diary of a Wimpy Kid #1) by Jeff Kinney

In my defense, I wasn't trying to be mean to Rowley. It's just that the kids at school were starting to make fun of him for being my friend. So I figured if I could find a way to make Rowley seem uncool, they'd leave him alone. I didn't want to hurt Rowley's feelings, but I thought a little tough love might toughen him up. After all, the world can be a pretty harsh place, and I didn't want Rowley to be caught off guard. I tried to give Rowley some pointers on how to be more popular, like getting rid of his baby blanket and choosing a cooler nickname. I even tried teaching him some dance moves, but that turned out to be a disaster. Despite my best intentions, things didn't go as planned. Instead of helping Rowley, I ended up humiliating him in front of the whole school. I guess I was so focused on trying to protect him that I didn't realize I was the one causing him harm. In the end, Rowley decided that he didn't want to be friends with me anymore. I felt terrible about what I had done, but I couldn't take back my actions. I had to learn the hard way that trying to change someone for their own good can sometimes do more harm than good.
