In our culture, vulnerability is often seen as weakness. We are taught to hide our vulnerabilities, to put on a brave face, and to never let others see our struggles. But in reality, vulnerability is not weakness at all - it is the birthplace of some of our most difficult emotions. When we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, we open ourselves up to the possibility of getting hurt. We risk rejection, criticism, and failure. And as a result, we may experience feelings of shame, fear, and uncertainty. When we are vulnerable, we are exposing our true selves to the world.
