When you avoid situations that make you anxious, you are essentially telling your brain that these situations are dangerous. This reinforces your brain's belief that there is something to be afraid of, which in turn intensifies your anxiety. By avoiding these situations, you are not giving yourself the opportunity to learn that they are not as threatening as your brain perceives them to be. In order to overcome anxiety, it is important to face your fears head-on. This means putting yourself in situations that make you anxious and staying in them until the anxiety naturally dissipates. By doing this, you are sending a different message to your brain - one that says, "I am not in danger, I can handle this." Over time, your brain will start to rewire itself and the anxiety response will become less intense. It is natural to want to avoid situations that make you anxious.
