This, in turn, triggers the body's stress response, leading to heightened anxiety symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, sweating, and muscle tension. Moreover, catastrophizing thoughts can create a vicious cycle of anxiety by reinforcing negative beliefs about oneself and the world. For example, if someone catastrophizes about failing a test, they may interpret this as evidence of their incompetence and expect similar failures in the future.
