Society imposes limits on individual freedom from "summary" of Blood and Guts in High School by Kathy Acker

In our world, society dictates what is acceptable and what is not. It sets boundaries on individual freedom, shaping our lives in ways we may not even realize. These limits are ingrained in us from a young age, reinforced by the norms and expectations of those around us. We are taught to conform, to fit into a mold that society has created for us. As we grow older, these limits become more apparent. We are told how to dress, how to act, how to speak. We are expected to follow the rules, to behave in a certain way. Any deviation from these norms is met with disapproval, with judgment. We are pressured to conform, to suppress our true selves in order to fit in. But what happens when we refuse to conform, when we reject the limits that society has placed on us? We are met with resistance, with punishment. We are ostracized, cast out from the group. We are told that we are wrong, that we are deviant. Society does not take kindly to those who challenge its authority, who defy its rules. Individual freedom is a precious thing, a gift that should be cherished and protected. But society has a way of restricting this freedom, of imposing limits on what we can and cannot do. It is up to us to push back against these limits, to assert our right to live as we choose. Only then can we truly be free, liberated from the constraints that society has placed on us.
