Despair, as a state of mind, is a peculiar form of evasion that individuals often resort to when faced with the inherent uncertainties and anxieties of human existence. It is a retreat into a passive, resigned attitude towards life, a refusal to engage with the challenges and responsibilities that come with freedom. Rather than confront the complexities of the world and their own agency within it, individuals succumb to despair as a means of avoiding the demands of self-awareness and decision-making.
