Blood supply of upper limbs from "summary" of Bd Chaurasia's Human Anatomy, Volume 1 by B. D. Chaurasia

The upper limbs receive their blood supply from the subclavian artery, a major vessel that arises from the aortic arch. The subclavian artery gives off several branches that supply blood to different parts of the upper limb. One of the main branches is the axillary artery, which continues from the subclavian artery and runs through the axilla (armpit) region. From the axillary artery, several branches arise to supply blood to various structures in the upper limb. One of these branches is the brachial artery, which is the main artery of the upper limb. The brachial artery runs down the arm and gives off branches that supply blood to the muscles and skin of the arm. As the brachial artery reaches the elbow region, it bifurcates into two branches – the radial artery and the ulnar artery. These arteries run down the forearm and supply blood to the muscles, bones, and skin of the forearm and hand. The radial artery runs along the lateral (thumb-side) aspect of the forearm, while the ulnar artery runs along the medial (pinky-side) aspect. In addition to the main arteries mentioned above, there are several smaller arteries that branch off from them to supply blood to specific areas of the upper limb. These arteries form an intricate network of blood vessels that ensure adequate blood supply to all parts of the upper limb, from the shoulder down to the fingertips.
  1. The blood supply of the upper limbs is a complex system of arteries that work together to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, bones, and skin of the arm, forearm, and hand. Understanding the anatomy of these blood vessels is crucial for healthcare professionals to diagnose and treat various conditions that may affect the blood supply to the upper limbs.
