Deception is a tool used by the powerful from "summary" of Animal Farm by George Orwell by George Orwell

The pigs in charge of Animal Farm were quick to realize that they could maintain their power by deceiving the other animals. They used propaganda to manipulate the truth and control the narrative. For example, Squealer, the pig responsible for spreading information, would twist facts and statistics to make the animals believe that everything was going well on the farm, even when it wasn't. By using deception in this way, the pigs were able to maintain their authority without facing any opposition from the other animals. Furthermore, the pigs were able to exploit the ignorance of the other animals to their advantage. They made sure that the animals were kept busy with hard labor and had limited access to education. This lack of knowledge and critical thinking skills made it easier for the pigs to deceive the animals and keep them in line. In addition, the pigs used fear tactics to suppress any dissent among the animals. They would remind the animals of the threat posed by Mr. Jones and his return, instilling a sense of fear and insecurity in them. The pigs also used deception to justify their own actions and maintain their luxurious lifestyle. For example, when the pigs started walking on two legs and wearing clothes, they claimed that it was necessary for their interactions with humans. They used this deception to distance themselves from the other animals and solidify their position of power. Through these manipulative tactics, the pigs were able to consolidate their control over the farm and ensure that they remained at the top of the social hierarchy.
  1. The concept of deception as a tool used by the powerful is clearly demonstrated in Animal Farm. The pigs' manipulation of information, exploitation of ignorance, use of fear tactics, and justification of their actions all serve to highlight how those in power can use deception to maintain their authority and suppress any opposition. This concept sheds light on the ways in which those in positions of power can abuse their authority and manipulate others for their own gain.
