Find joy in the ordinary and mundane from "summary" of Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki

In our practice, it is important to find joy in the ordinary and mundane aspects of life. This may seem counterintuitive at first, as we are often drawn to the extraordinary and exciting. However, when we learn to appreciate the simple things in life, we cultivate a sense of contentment and peace that is not dependent on external circumstances. When we focus on finding joy in the ordinary, we are able to fully engage with the present moment. Instead of constantly seeking out new and stimulating experiences, we learn to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us in our everyday lives. This can be as simple as enjoying a cup of tea, taking a walk in nature, or spending time with loved ones. By finding joy in the mundane, we also develop a sense of gratitude for the small things that we often take for granted. When we learn to see the beauty in everyday moments, we are less likely to be consumed by desire for things that are out of reach. This allows us to find contentment and fulfillment in the present moment, rather than constantly striving for something more. In Zen practice, we are encouraged to approach each moment with a beginner's mind, free from preconceptions and judgments. By finding joy in the ordinary, we are able to cultivate this sense of openness and curiosity. We learn to see the world with fresh eyes, appreciating the wonder and beauty that is present in every moment.
