Cultivate humility and acceptance from "summary" of Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki

The most important point to remember is to have a beginner's mind, an attitude of openness and eagerness, like that of a child seeing things for the first time. When we approach life with humility and acceptance, we are able to truly appreciate and learn from our experiences. Humility allows us to let go of our preconceived ideas and judgments, and accept things as they are without trying to change or control them. It is a recognition that we do not know everything, and that there is always more to learn. Acceptance, on the other hand, is the willingness to embrace the reality of the present moment, without resistance or aversion. It is an acknowledgment that life is constantly changing, and that trying to hold on to things as they are only leads to suffering. By cultivating humility and acceptance, we can develop a sense of inner peace and contentment, even in the face of difficulties and challenges. In Zen practice, we are encouraged to let go of our attachments and expectations, and simply be present in each moment with an open heart and mind. This requires a deep trust in the unfolding of life, and a willingness to surrender to the unknown. When we approach life in this way, we are able to see things as they truly are, without the distortions of our own ego. By cultivating humility and acceptance, we can learn to let go of our need for control and certainty, and instead embrace the inherent uncertainty and impermanence of life. This is not a passive resignation, but an active engagement with life as it is, with all its joys and sorrows. It is a way of living with courage and grace, in harmony with the ever-changing flow of existence.
