Letting go of attachments leads to inner peace and contentment from "summary" of Zen and the Art of Happiness by Chris Prentiss

To experience true inner peace and contentment, one must learn to let go of attachments. Attachments are things that we cling to in the belief that they will bring us happiness, security, or fulfillment. These attachments can take many forms, from material possessions to relationships to ideas and beliefs. However, the reality is that attachments only serve to bind us and prevent us from experiencing true freedom and peace. When we are attached to something, we become dependent on it for our sense of identity and well-being. We believe that without this attachment, we would be lost or incomplete. This dependency creates a cycle of desire, attachment, and suffering that keeps us trapped in a state of perpetual discontent. We are constantly seeking external validation and fulfillment, but no matter how much we acquire or achieve, it is never enough to satisfy our inner longing. The key to breaking free from this cycle is to cultivate a sense of detachment. Detachment does not mean indifference or apathy; rather, it is a state of inner freedom and non-attachment. It is the ability to let go of our attachments and desires, to release the hold they have over us, and to find peace and contentment within ourselves. By letting go of attachments, we free ourselves from the burden of constantly seeking external sources of happiness and fulfillment. We no longer rely on external circumstances or possessions to define our sense of self-worth. Instead, we learn to find joy and contentment in the present moment, regardless of our external circumstances. When we let go of attachments, we open ourselves up to a deeper sense of inner peace and contentment. We no longer feel the need to control or possess people, things, or experiences in order to feel complete. We are able to embrace life as it is, without clinging to what we think we need to be happy. In this state of detachment, we are able to experience a profound sense of freedom and ease. We are no longer imprisoned by our desires and attachments, but are able to move through the world with a sense of lightness and grace. We are able to find joy and contentment in the simple moments of life, free from the burden of constantly seeking more. Letting go of attachments is not always easy, as we are conditioned to believe that our happiness depends on external circumstances. However, by practicing mindfulness, self-awareness, and acceptance, we can gradually release our attachments and cultivate a deeper sense of inner peace and contentment. In doing so, we discover that
