Building a support system is essential for mental wellbeing from "summary" of Wow, No Thank You. by Samantha Irby

In order to maintain our mental wellbeing, we need to have a solid support system in place. This isn't just about having people around you who will listen to your problems and offer advice (although that's certainly important). It's also about knowing that there are people in your life who have your back no matter what. A support system can consist of friends, family members, therapists, or even online communities of like-minded individuals. The key is to have people you can turn to when you're feeling overwhelmed or just need a listening ear. These are the people who will celebrate your successes with you and help you navigate through difficult times. Building a support system takes time and effort. You have to be willing to open up to others and let them in, which can be scary. It also means being there for them when they need support in return. It's a two-way street, but the benefits are well worth it. Having a support system in place can help reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness, which are common contributors to poor mental health. It can also provide a sense of belonging and connection, which are essential for overall wellbeing. By surrounding ourselves with people who care about us and who we care about in return, we create a safety net for ourselves. We know that no matter what life throws at us, we have people we can count on to help us through it. So, take the time to nurture your relationships and build a support system that works for you. Your mental wellbeing will thank you for it.
