Learning to appreciate and cherish the present moment from "summary" of Wild by Cheryl Strayed
As I walked the Pacific Crest Trail, I realized that my mind was constantly drifting to the past or the future. I was consumed by regrets and fears, unable to fully embrace the beauty of the present moment. It was during those long days of solitude and silence that I learned the importance of being present. I started to pay attention to the little details around me - the way the sunlight filtered through the trees, the sound of birds chirping in the distance, the feel of the earth beneath my feet. I began to see that there was so much beauty in the world that I had been missing because I was too caught up in my own thoughts. By learning to appreciate and cherish the present moment, I found a sense of peace and contentment that I had never experienced before. I no longer felt the need to constantly escape into the past or the future. Instead, I focused on living in the here and now, savoring each moment as it came. It wasn't always easy to stay present. There were times when my mind would wander back to the past or jump ahead to the future. But I learned to gently bring myself back to the present, to remind myself that this moment was all that truly mattered. As I continued my journey on the trail, I realized that being present was not just about enjoying the beauty of nature. It was also about being fully engaged with my own thoughts and emotions, accepting them without judgment or resistance. I learned to be kinder to myself, to let go of the past and the future, and to simply be in the moment. In the end, I discovered that true happiness lies in learning to appreciate and cherish the present moment, in finding joy in the simple things that surround us every day. It is a lesson that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, a reminder to savor each moment as it comes, to be fully alive in the here and now.Similar Posts
