Anxiety is a natural response to stress. When we experience stress, our bodies and minds react in a way that is designed to protect us. This reaction dates back to our evolutionary past when threats to our survival were more immediate and physical. In those times, our ancestors needed a way to respond quickly to danger, whether it was a predatory animal or a natural disaster. Today, while the threats we face may be different, our bodies still respond in much the same way. When we perceive a threat or danger, our bodies go into "fight or flight" mode, releasing hormones like adrenaline and cortisol to help us react quickly.
