Brain structure impacts communication styles from "summary" of Why men don't listen and women can't read maps by Allan Pease,Barbara Pease

The way we communicate is deeply influenced by the structures of our brains. Men and women have different brain structures that impact how they communicate. For example, women have a larger corpus callosum, the part of the brain that connects the left and right hemispheres. This allows women to use both sides of their brain simultaneously, leading to a more holistic and intuitive communication style. On the other hand, men have less connectivity between the hemispheres of their brains. This results in a more compartmentalized and linear communication style. Men tend to focus on one task at a time, using primarily the left side of their brain for language and logic. These differences in brain structure can lead to misunderstandings between men and women when communicating. Women may perceive men as being unemotional or insensitive, while men may see women as being overly emotional or illogical. Understanding these differences can help improve communication between the sexes. In addition to brain structure, hormones also play a role in shaping communication styles. Testosterone, which is more prevalent in men, can lead to a more aggressive and dominant communication style. Estrogen, found in higher levels in women, can promote more nurturing and empathetic communication.
  1. It is important to recognize and appreciate the differences in brain structure and hormonal influences that impact how men and women communicate. By understanding these differences, we can learn to communicate more effectively and bridge the gap between the sexes.
