Mindfulness is not a passive state of mind. It is not about zoning out or escaping reality. It is about actively engaging with the present moment, with whatever is happening right now. It is about being fully present and aware of our thoughts, feelings, sensations, and surroundings. When we practice mindfulness, we deliberately choose to pay attention to the here and now, on purpose. We bring our awareness to our breath, our body, our thoughts, and our emotions. We observe them without judgment, without trying to change them or analyze them. We simply notice what is happening, without getting caught up in the stories and dramas that our minds often create.
