Honesty is the best policy in any situation from "summary" of Where We Belong by Emily Giffin

There is a certain purity to the truth, a simplicity that can't be matched by the most intricate web of lies. But sometimes the truth is hard, and it's tempting to veer off course, to tell a little white lie here, or a half-truth there. It's easy to justify these little deceptions as harmless, as necessary to protect ourselves or others. But the thing about lies is that they have a way of building upon themselves, of spiraling out of control until the truth is buried deep beneath layers of deceit. And once you start down that path, it's hard to find your way back. It's like quicksand, the more you struggle, the deeper you sink. In the end, honesty is like a beacon in the darkness, a guiding light that leads us out of the tangled mess of lies and half-truths. It may be difficult, it may be painful, but in the long run, it's always worth it. Because when we are honest, we are free. Free from the burden of keeping up appearances, free from the fear of being found out. And it's not just about being honest with others, it's also about being honest with ourselves. Sometimes the hardest truths to face are the ones we keep hidden deep inside, the ones we don't want to acknowledge. But until we confront those truths, until we accept them for what they are, we can never truly be at peace.
  1. Honesty can be hard. It can be uncomfortable, even painful. But ultimately, it is the only way to live a life free from the weight of lies and deception. And isn't that what we all want? To be able to look ourselves in the mirror and know that we are living our truth, no matter how difficult it may be.
